Thrillers

Today consisted of two parts: In the first part of the lesson, we watched a documentary about film openings - what makes them effective, and interests the audience, leaving them wanting to watch the rest of the film. The most important point I learned was, in the opening scene, you need to give just the right amount of information. Meaning, that too little information could bore the viewer and not capture their attention, and too much information will reveal the plot, and the viewer will see no point in watching the rest of the movie at all. You need to get the balance just right.


After the documentary, and a question sheet along with a discussion, we watched Thriller Openings done by last year's AS students. We watched ones with high grades and low grades, discussing what made them good, and what they could have done to improve. This was a really helpful part of the lesson, as it helped us generate ideas for our own thrillers. Once that was done, we got into our groups and discussed the rough ideas for our own thrillers. Nasima and I thought of some really good ideas, and we know what type of editing and camera work we would like included, as well as a basic story line, settings, and costume. We hope Layla likes/agrees with our ideas. I'm not going to write our ideas down yet - we don't want anyone copying us! But I might do on future posts.

Lisa, you've produced a really good series of entries with a strong awareness of what you are learning and skills you are developing. If you keep this up, you will have an excellent production journal at the end of the project.
